Open Office

Open Office is almost exactly the same as Microsoft Office, but it's free to download, use, and distribute. The suite of software comes with a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet (Calc) and a presentation software (Impress). There's no need to worry about compatibility; you have the option to save your files so that they will open in Word, Excel, or Powerpoint.

Google Docs is a free app that allows you to create documents just as you would in Microsoft Word. Everything you create will be saved automatically in the cloud, and you can download your docs and save them to your computer or a flashdrive, too. You can access Google Docs through your STCC Gmail.

Citation Tools

EasyBib is a tool that will generate citations in MLA, APA, or Chicago formats for your references or works cited page. You plug in the information, and EasyBib puts it all together in the correct format. EasyBib also has a title page maker and can help you to determine if a website is an appropriate source for research.

Google Drive is easy to use and automatically saves all your work in the cloud. No more losing your work! There's no downloading necessary since you can access Google Drive through the web. Get there by signing into your STCC gmail account and then clicking on the grid in the upper right hand corner and selecting "Drive." You can upload existing files or you can create new files, spreadsheets, and presentations.

A free account with DropBox allows you 2GB of space for storing documents, images, and other files. You can access DropBox from any device with an internet connection. You can also share files with classmates or friends for editing. No more worrying about losing a flashdrive! Save your files to the cloud for free!
