Did you know?
The STCC community put together a campus-wide writing guide called "On the Same Page: Springfield Technical Community College Campus Writing Guide" which is included as an insert in a book called "A Pocket Style Manual," Call No. PE 1408 .H26 2004 (see above). The following is taken from the Introduction to that guide:
"Writing is a powerful tool for learning; it's also an essential skill for success in college and in business. However, writing assignments present challenges. Key questions arise immediately: What does the assignment require? What's the format? How can I go about completing the project efficiently? Where can I find information? Is help available? Are there model papers I can read?
This campus writing guide tries to answer those questions and to place Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) students, instructors, librarians, tutors, and counselors "On the Same Page."
The STCC portion of this small book, which is available for purchase at the STCC bookstore, and also on Reserve in the Library, is divided into six sections: Why Write?; Principles & Process of Effective Writing; Engineering, Science, and Technical Writing; Campus Resources; Plagiarism; and Models (meaning model papers). Hacker's portion includes sections on grammar, punctuation, and several other potentially useful topics.

English 100 @ STCC Research Guide
Welcome to English 100 @ STCC Research Guide!
(available @ http://libguides.stcc.edu/english100)
This guide will help you get started finding resources to help you in your English 100 course. For example, by using the tabs across the top of this guide, you will find material on how to:
- Choose a research topic;
- Use the STCC databases to get scholarly articles (and we'll tell you how to recognize a scholarly article when you see one!);
- Find books on how to write;
- Figure out how to cite different types of research materials;
and lots of other useful (we hope) material. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions by using the contact information in the box at right. All of the Reference Librarians here at STCC are waiting to help you. And feel free to recommend that we cover additional issues in this guide.
Good Luck!
