Why use?
Reference books give you:
- A quick introduction to your subject by covering a lot of points briefly;
- In-depth background on some of the major elements of your topic;
- Vocabulary to use for searches in other resources;
- Bibliographies that can give you ideas for other resources;
Reference Books on Non-Western Literature

World Literature Sources:
- Encyclopedia of World Literature in the 20th Century
Call Number: PN771.E5 1999 REF
This work consists primarily of entries about individual authors, but it also includes survey articles about national literatures and literary movements. - World Authors, 1900-1950 - editors, Martin Seymour-Smith, and Andrew C. Kimmens.

Provides almost 2700 articles on twentieth-century authors from all over the world who wrote in English or whose works are available in English translation. The library also has volumes on the periods from 1950-1970, 1970-1975, 1975-1980, 1980-1985 and 1995-2000. - World literature and its times : profiles of notable literary works and the historical events that influenced them - Joyce Moss, Lorraine Valestuk.

African Literature: - African Writers - C. Brian Cox, editor.
