Assignment: Medical History Research Project and Presentation

Students will choose partners. You will be assigned a medical condition that could impact a patient's dental treatment. Utilizing the internet, the students will perform an evidence-based search for information related to the medical condition and it's impact on dental treatment. The students will provide the professor with a copy of the search history and appropriate documentation of the sites utilized to compile the information about the condition. Each pair of students will work together to compile a single research paper. The research paper should be double-spaced, follow APA writing style format including running header and bibliography. The students should include a description of the condition, emergencies that may arise from this condition and how the condition may complicate, influence, or necessitate modifications to the dental hygiene process of care. The assignment is due on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Students will give a 5-10 minute presentation related to their research to the class. Utilization of visual media is optional.

Assignment will be graded on the following criteria:

A. Web Search History: provided to professor

B. Medical Condition Information

  1. Description of the condition, including its etiology
  2. Medical emergency situations that may arise from the condition
  3. Description of how the condition may complicate, influence, or necessitate modifications to the dental hygiene process of care.

C. Presentation: TUESDAY December 6, 2016

  1. 5-10 minutes in duration
  2. Information presented in organized professional manner
  3. Student questions addressed appropriately
